Every year, the grounds of Puyallup, Washington come alive with a vibrant spectacle that draws in visitors from all corners of the state and beyond. The Washington State Fair stands as a testament to the power of community, culture and tradition. Spanning over a century of history, this annual event has evolved into a celebration that captures the heart of Washington's diverse offerings, from agriculture and entertainment to food and arts.

This year's fair kicks off in a little less than a month, running Aug. 30-Sept. 22, so it's never too early to start planning your outing, especially if you plan to attend any of the concert series.

This year's concert series offers a huge line-up of stars including, Thomas Rhett, Ne-Yo, TobyMac, Steve Miller Band, Nate Smith, Walker Hayes, Gabriel ‘Fluffy' Iglesias and more. For a full line-up and to purchase tickets visit https://www.thefair.com/concerts/.

There are plenty of other entertainment options for you and your family. The fair provides local artists and crafters with a platform to display their creations and be viewed by all. The art exhibitions and craft shows celebrate the diverse artistic talent of Washington state, ranging from traditional artworks to contemporary designs. This integration of art into the fair's fabric emphasizes the importance of creativity in the community. A personal favorite of ours is the Hobby Hall, where local collectors gather to showcase their collections of all sorts. From Disney collectables to unique glass jars, you really never know what to expect each year.

New to the fair this year will be the POPnology exhibit which explores how pop culture has influenced our perception and the reality of the future. This is a separate ticketed event that is not included in the fair admission price. Tickets for this exhibit are $9, children two and younger are free.

Other exhibits and attractions include agriculture and horticulture displays plus The Farm at Sillyville. This "farmer for a day" experience exhibit tells Washington's food and farming story and connects kids and families to our state's agriculture industry.

Mark your calendar for the 2024 Puyallup Rodeo held Sept. 5-8. Check the website for the schedule and tickets.

Another huge draw for families are of course the rides. Nothing screams The Washington State Fair more than riding down the big yellow slide on a burlap sack. There is also a wide range of rides that appeal to the young and old. Roller coasters, mini coasters, fun houses and so much more! Plus your classic fair games like ring ross and balloon darts will complete your fair experience.

And of course no trip to the fair is complete without overindulging in all the fair food offerings. Fisher Scones are a long time tradition at the fair and they can be picked up at multiple locations throughout the fair. Krusty Pups, Meyer Onion Burgers, corn on the cob, and heaps of curly fries are other fair classics worth indulging in.

Early bird tickets can be purchased online until Aug. 22.
