The 253 has more metal bands than I have room to mention, but one band has been bashing out the most evil, blackest metal longer than the rest - Infernal Legion. This Saturday the band will release its newest full-length record on Moribund Records. The Spear of Longinus features nine

Tacoma is a metal town. Always has been. Always will be. Period! Some folks say it's the weather, the water or the drugs, but I say it's in our blood. Like any other blue-collar town, Tacoma likes no-BS, aggressive, powerful music. This Saturday Infernal Region will release its newest full-length record

Ah! Youth! They are the future and I believe I saw a glimmer of hope last week when I trekked to Seattle to witness Tacoma's own Mechanism open for Devin Townsend Project. Mechanism blasted through an incredibly pro-sounding set as the venue filled to uncomfortable levels. Headbanging and horn salutes

Sorry I've been AWOL for the last few weeks, but between my email being hacked and throwing my old punk self into the OccupyTacoma.org movement I've been hella busy. In the early-to-mid '80s I was exposed to a ton of music, but the stuff that really got to me was the

Last week started with a bang Thursday at The New Frontier Lounge, as Seattle's Ancient Warlocks and Portland's White Orange brought their tour to a small yet supportive crowd of hipsters, musicians and freaks. Local boys (Really! They are like 19!!!) Rooftop Warriors started simply by stating "We like Black

First off, I'd like to give my eternal thanks to all who sent well wishes or joined me for my "Metal B-Day" bash at Hell's Kitchen. We got to witness Sleeper Cell get heavy, Eroder do its thing, and Out prove just how loud guitars can get in the remodeled

40! TODAY! Thursday, Sept. 1 is my birthday party at Hell's Kitchen. What does it mean? The chance to bear witness to powerfully loud-ass bands like Bremerton's Out, Sleeper Cell (featuring John Purkey of Subvert/Machine infamy), Eroder and Regional Faction. Also, come out and see the great changes in floor

So I'm turning 40 years old next week, and as I sit back and reflect on the Tacoma music scene over the last 20 or so years I notice something - it has always been cooler than most other cities! I attribute this mostly to one thing: heart. No, not
